What is a refrigerator sealed system?

The sealed system is the closed refrigeration loop: compressor, condenser coil, filter drier, capillary tube (or expansion device), and evaporator coil, charged with refrigerant such as R600a or R134a. It's 'sealed' because the refrigerant circulates in a closed circuit — opening it requires certified equipment for recovery, brazing, evacuation, and recharge.

Is a compressor replacement worth it?

Often yes — especially on built-in and high-end refrigerators, and on newer units where the rest of the appliance has years of life left. On some models the compressor is covered by a long manufacturer parts warranty (LG, for example, has covered linear compressors for up to 10 years), which can dramatically reduce the cost. We check warranty coverage before quoting.

Can I fix a refrigerant leak myself?

No — sealed system work is not a DIY repair. Handling refrigerants requires EPA-compliant recovery equipment, and the repair involves brazing, replacing the filter drier, pulling a deep vacuum, and weighing in an exact refrigerant charge. What the Sealed System Is

The sealed system is your refrigerator's closed refrigeration loop: the compressor pumps refrigerant (commonly R600a in modern units, R134a in older ones) through the condenser coil, past a filter drier, through a capillary tube into the evaporator coil, where it absorbs heat from inside the cabinet. If any part of this loop fails — or refrigerant leaks out — no amount of fan, thermostat, or control board work will bring the cold back.
