Professional KitchenAid Repair in Irvine and South Orange County
If your KitchenAid refrigerator stopped making ice, the fresh food side is creeping up past 40°F, or the wall oven won't hold its temperature, the cause is usually one of a short list of parts. Alpha & Omega does professional KitchenAid repair in Irvine, Tustin and Lake Forest, and down the corridor to San Clemente. Most KitchenAid calls we take are refrigerators, built-in models in particular. Wall ovens and ranges come next.
We're an independent repair company, not part of KitchenAid's own service network. If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, call KitchenAid first. That repair should cost you nothing.
Which KitchenAid appliances do you repair?
Refrigerators come first for us. That covers built-in side-by-side and bottom-freezer models, the 36, 42 and 48 inch units that sit flush with the cabinets, plus French door, counter-depth and freestanding refrigerators and KitchenAid freezers. On the cooking side we work on single and double wall ovens, gas and dual fuel ranges, and the commercial-style KitchenAid ranges.
KitchenAid belongs to Whirlpool Corporation, and a lot of the parts inside are shared with Whirlpool and JennAir models. That's good news for you. Parts are easy to find, and the failure patterns are well known, so diagnosis tends to go faster than on a rare European brand.
Why did my KitchenAid ice maker stop making ice?
Ice makers fail more often than any other part of a modern refrigerator, and KitchenAid is no exception. Before you call anyone, check three things. Is the ice maker switched on? There's a switch or a setting on the control panel, and it gets bumped during cleaning. When did you last change the water filter? A clogged filter slows water to a trickle. And is the freezer cold enough? Ice makers want the freezer near 0°F. At 10°F or warmer, production drops off or stops.
If all three check out, the usual suspects are a frozen fill tube, a water inlet valve that no longer opens fully, or the ice maker module itself. A frozen fill tube often goes with low water pressure or a valve that drips between fills.
On French door models, the ice maker sits up in the fresh food door, and ice can build up around that compartment until it jams the auger. Don't chip at it with a knife. The liner is thin plastic with wiring and a sensor behind it, and a crack there turns a simple repair into a much bigger one.
Water pressure deserves its own mention. In a lot of Irvine and Tustin homes the refrigerator line runs a long way from the sink, sometimes off an old saddle valve. If the dispenser takes a long time to fill a glass, the ice maker is starving too. Our ice maker troubleshooting guide walks through the checks in order.
Why is the fresh food side warm while the freezer is still cold?
On most KitchenAid refrigerators the cold air is made in the freezer and blown into the fresh food side by a fan. So when the freezer is fine and the refrigerator reads 45°F, airflow is the first place we look. The evaporator fan motor is a classic failure here. You'll often hear it before it quits: a chirp, a squeal or a ticking from behind the freezer back panel.
The other big cause is defrost. Several times a day the refrigerator warms its evaporator coil with a small heater to melt the frost off. If the heater, the defrost thermostat or the control stops doing its part, frost slowly packs the coil until air can't get through. Signs to look for: a white, frosted back panel in the freezer, the fridge side getting warmer over several days, and everything working again for a while after the unit has been unplugged.
Please don't unplug it for a day and call it fixed. That melts the frost, but the failed part is still failed, and the frost will be back in a week or two. More on this in our refrigerator not cooling guide.
Is a built-in KitchenAid refrigerator different to repair?
Yes, in a few ways. On many built-in KitchenAid models the compressor and condenser sit at the top, behind the grille above the doors, not down at the floor like on a freestanding fridge. That grille pulls in dust and kitchen grease. When the condenser clogs, the compressor runs hot and long, both sections cool poorly, and the unit gets louder.
Once a year is enough for most kitchens. If you cook a lot of high-heat food or the range sits right next to the refrigerator, look at it every six months. Turn the refrigerator off first, then use a vacuum with a brush attachment on the grille and the coil you can see behind it. Only do this if you're steady on a step ladder.
Built-ins are heavy, anchored to the cabinets, and often wear custom panels. The good part is that most repairs on them happen from the front. The evaporator fan, the defrost parts and the ice maker are all reached from inside the cabinet, so the refrigerator rarely has to come out of its opening. For other brands and general fridge problems, see our refrigerator repair page.
What goes wrong with KitchenAid wall ovens and ranges?
Most oven calls are about temperature. The oven heats slowly, runs hot or cold, or shows the right number while the food stays underdone. On electric KitchenAid ovens, the bake and broil elements and the temperature sensor are the usual causes, and the control board less often. On gas ovens, a weak igniter is the top reason the oven takes forever to preheat or won't light. The igniter still glows, just not hot enough to open the gas valve.
Here's a test you can run at home. Set the oven to 350°F, put a basic oven thermometer in the middle of the rack, and read it after 20 minutes. A swing of about 25 degrees either way is normal cycling. If it's 50 degrees off, something needs attention. Our oven and range repair page covers the cooking side in more detail.
How much does a KitchenAid repair cost?
The service call for a KitchenAid refrigerator or freezer is $95. For a KitchenAid oven or range it's $85. That covers the visit and the diagnosis, and if you go ahead with the repair, the fee is applied toward it. You'll know the repair price before any work starts.
Every repair carries a 90-day parts and labor warranty. Is it worth fixing? On a built-in KitchenAid fridge, nearly always, since replacing one means a new unit plus cabinet work. On an older freestanding unit with a failed compressor, we'll tell you plainly if the numbers don't add up.
Do you cover KitchenAid repair in Tustin and Lake Forest?
Yes. Irvine is home base, so Irvine visits are the quickest, from Woodbridge and Northwood to Turtle Rock and Quail Hill. Tustin and Lake Forest are right next door, including Tustin Ranch, Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills.
We also run down the 5 to Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Ladera Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point and San Clemente. Same-day visits are possible when the schedule allows, so calling in the morning helps. The full list is on our service areas page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you part of KitchenAid's service network?
No. We're an independent company doing professional KitchenAid repair, with real hands-on work on KitchenAid refrigerators, wall ovens and ranges. If your unit is still under the manufacturer's warranty, call KitchenAid first.
Why is my KitchenAid freezer squealing or chirping?
Most often it's the evaporator fan motor behind the freezer back panel. Sometimes ice has built up and the fan blade is touching it, which points to a defrost problem. Either way it's worth fixing early, because a fan that stops leaves the fresh food side warm.
What temperature should my KitchenAid refrigerator be set to?
About 37 degrees F in the fresh food section and 0 degrees F in the freezer. If the freezer sits much warmer than that, the ice maker slows down or stops.
Can you repair a built-in KitchenAid without pulling it out?
Usually, yes. The ice maker, evaporator fan and defrost parts are reached from inside the cabinet, and on many built-in models the compressor and condenser are at the top behind the grille.
How much is a KitchenAid service call?
$95 for a refrigerator or freezer and $85 for an oven or range. The fee is applied toward the repair if you go ahead, and every repair has a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
