A dryer that runs but doesn't heat, or takes two or three cycles to dry a single load, is usually an easy fix for a technician, and a frustrating guessing game to DIY. Alpha & Omega services both gas and electric dryers across Orange County.

A couple of quick checks can rule out the simplest causes. But some dryer issues are genuine safety concerns, see the warning signs below before you keep using the machine.

Common Dryer Repair Problems We Fix

Dryer not heating

The top cause is a blown thermal fuse, followed by a failed heating element or, on gas dryers, an igniter.

Drum not turning

Usually a broken drive belt or worn drum roller, the motor is still running, just not turning the drum.

Overheating or shutting off early

Often a blocked vent restricting airflow, which trips the thermal safety cutoff.

Squeaking or loud rumbling

Worn drum rollers, a glide bearing, or idler pulley are the usual suspects.

Gas igniter clicking but not lighting

The igniter may be weak, or the gas valve coils may have failed, this is gas-line adjacent work, best left to a pro.

Long dry times

Almost always a lint or vent blockage restricting airflow, even when the dryer is otherwise working fine.

How It Works

Call or Text Reach us in under 2 minutes, tell us what's going on and where you're located in Orange County.

We Diagnose On-Site A technician comes to you, inspects the appliance, and gives you an honest, upfront price before touching anything.

Fixed the Same Visit Most repairs are completed in one visit. If a part needs to be ordered, we'll tell you exactly what to expect.

Quick Checks You Can Try First

Clean the lint trap before every load, this is the single most common cause of slow drying and is fully preventable.
Check the exterior vent hose isn't kinked, crushed, or clogged with lint.
Confirm the outlet/breaker has power, dryers are often on a dedicated 240V circuit that can trip separately from the rest of the house.
For gas dryers, check that the gas supply valve behind the unit is fully open.

Call a Pro Right Away If You See This

No heat at all, often the thermal fuse, heating element, or igniter, which isn't a safe DIY swap
Any burning smell, stop using the dryer immediately
A gas smell near the unit, leave the area and call a professional right away, don't attempt anything yourself
Drum not turning (belt or roller failure)
Repeated overheating or the dryer shutting itself off
