Our new refrigerator runs all the time and the fresh-food side is warm. It barely fits in the opening, could that be it?
It can be. A refrigerator packed tight under an old cabinet and between counters recirculates its own warm air, so it runs longer and cools less. Check the clearances in the installation manual, clean the condenser coils and make sure nothing blocks the grille at the bottom. There is water on the garage floor next to the furnace in summer. Is that the AC?
Almost always. The AC coil on top of the furnace produces water, which normally drains away through a small pipe. When that drain clogs with algae and dirt, the pan overflows. A dirty filter can also freeze the coil, and the melting ice ends up on the floor. Replace the filter and turn the AC off if the coil is iced. My garage freezer frosts over and the food is soft on top. Is it worth fixing?
Usually, yes. Heavy frost most often means the door gasket no longer seals, sometimes because the freezer is pushed against shelving or the door was left ajar, or, on frost-free models, a defrost heater, thermostat or timer has failed.
