Every repair starts with a symptom. Below are the problems we're called about most across Orange County, with the likely causes, an honest "try it yourself first" or "this needs a technician" verdict, and a link to the detailed guide where we have one. Can't find your symptom? Call (949) 267-7771 and describe it, we'll tell you over the phone what it probably is. 🎟️ Website code OMEGA25 = $25 off any completed repair.
Dirty condenser, blocked vents, defrost failure, evaporator fan, or a sealed-system fault. Start with our step-by-step checklist.
On dual-circuit models (Liebherr and others): that compartment's fan, sensor or defrost system. On single-circuit models: frost blocking the shared airflow.
Hard ice on the back panel means the defrost system (heater, bi-metal, control board); fuzzy frost near the door means a leaking seal; a slab on the floor means a clogged defrost drain.
Frozen fill line, failed inlet valve, or the ice maker unit itself. Sometimes it just needs a proper cleaning, we'll tell you honestly.
Blocked defrost drain backing meltwater into the cabinet, or a cracked/kinked water line to the ice maker.
Where it freezes is the clue. Back shelf only means the vent airstream. Crisper drawers mean a stuck-open air damper or a drifted thermistor. Everything at once means the setting or a boost mode left on.
Ice cream like a brick or a compressor that never rests. The cold is being made correctly, something is deciding wrong when to stop: the thermistor, the adaptive defrost board, a blocked damper duct or the start relay.
Fan spinning at the back while the compressor stays cold usually means the linear inverter board, not the compressor. Many LG models still carry parts coverage on that compressor, so the model and serial matter before anything is replaced.
Open the freezer door. If the noise stops it is the evaporator fan hitting ice. If it clicks every few minutes it is the start relay or the compressor. Squeals are fan bearings.
That is a failed start, not proof of a dead compressor. The start relay and the overload protector clipped to the compressor fail far more often than the compressor itself, and the two sound identical. It takes a meter to tell them apart.
Frost on the evaporator, a fan hitting ice, dirty condenser, or a compressor working against a failing cooling system.
Each code points somewhere specific, drain (OE), balance (UE), water supply (IE), door (dE), motor (LE). Our LG code guide explains the common ones.
Clogged drain pump filter (coins and socks live there), kinked drain hose, worn pump, or a lid/door lock fault.
Door gasket (front-loaders), fill hoses, detergent drawer overflow from too much soap, or an internal hose. Find where the water is before you call, it helps.
Unbalanced load first, then suspension rods or drum bearings. A bearing rumble gets worse every week; earlier is cheaper.
Thermal fuse, heating element (electric), igniter (gas), or a tripped breaker pair. The #1 dryer call, usually a one-visit fix.
Restricted exhaust vent in most homes, lint builds up along the duct, not just the filter. LG models show d80/d90/d95 codes for exactly this.
Drum rollers, idler pulley, or belt, wear items on any dryer past its first few years. Cheap parts, awkward access.
Clicking means the spark is fine, so the fault is between the spark and the gas: a cap sitting crooked, a wet electrode, food packed into the ports. A yellow flame is the other half of the page, and it means the burner is short of air. Reseating and cleaning are safe at home. Pressure, electrodes and orifices are not.
The utility makes it safe and leaves. Everything past the appliance shutoff valve is appliance repair work: a leaking flex connector, a safety valve seeping when closed, a burner putting out unburned gas. Photograph the tag, leave the valve shut, and have the model number ready.
A whiff for a second or two as the burner catches is normal. A loud pop is delayed ignition, usually an igniter that still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the valve on time. Stop using the oven. If the smell is strong, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside before anyone else.
The display says 350°F and the food says otherwise. A drifted temperature sensor, a fading igniter or bake element, a convection fan that has slowed, or heat escaping past a tired door gasket. Measure the real cavity temperature first, our guide has the test.
Not a heating fault. Check the 240V breaker properly, because a tripped one often sits only a few millimeters out of line. Then look for a control lock or Sabbath mode, then cut power for five full minutes. On a gas range a dark display with working burners still points at the 120V outlet.
On gas, a weakening igniter that still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve. On electric, a failed bake element, a lost leg of the 240V supply, or a temperature sensor lying to the control board. Our guide separates them by symptom.
Food debris in the igniter or burner ports first, clean and dry them. If one burner clicks forever or none light, it's the igniter or spark module.
On gas, that is almost always a weakening hot-surface igniter, it still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve. On electric, suspect the bake element or the temperature sensor. Test it with a thermometer before the holidays.
Read the error code, check the breaker, check whether the door locked itself, then cut power for five full minutes. That clears a control lockout and sometimes a stuck lock motor. If it doesn't, the food is on a clock and the oven isn't, so switch to a Plan B.
The high-heat cycle is what killed it. Usually the one-shot thermal fuse or the control board above the cavity. Reset the breaker once, because a weak one often trips at the end of the cycle. If the oven is still dark, stop, because a blown fuse is a symptom and the second one blows too if nobody finds what overheated.
Door-lock motor or switch stuck after the high-heat cycle. Don't force the door, the latch breaks and the repair doubles. Let the cavity drop below roughly 500°F first, which can take an hour or two, then try a five-minute breaker reset.
Dirty filter or blocked outdoor unit first, then refrigerant level, capacitor, or compressor. In an OC summer, don't wait on this one.
Normal cycles run 10–20 minutes. Filter and thermostat first; then a weak capacitor, a compressor overload tripping on heat, a dust-packed outdoor coil, or a float switch on a clogged condensate drain.
Thermostat batteries and filter first; then flame sensor, igniter, or a safety switch doing its job for a reason.
Batteries, fan on ON instead of AUTO, a schedule nobody reset, a blown 3 amp fuse, a smart thermostat with no C wire. How to tell the thermostat from the equipment.
The signals a system gives weeks before it quits, in both seasons. Which ones can wait for the next service visit and which three mean shutting it off tonight.
