Simple Maintenance That Prevents Most Appliance Repairs
Most of the service calls we run could have been delayed β sometimes avoided entirely β with a few minutes of regular maintenance. None of this requires tools or expertise, just a recurring reminder.
Dishwasher
- Clean the bottom filter/food trap monthly.
- Wipe the door gasket to keep it sealing properly.
- Run an empty hot-water cycle with a dishwasher cleaner every few months.
Washer
- Leave the door open between loads on front-load washers to prevent mold and odor buildup.
- Clean the detergent drawer regularly.
- Don't overload β it's the single biggest cause of premature bearing wear.
Dryer
- Clean the lint trap before every load β this alone prevents most slow-drying complaints.
- Vacuum out the vent hose once or twice a year.
- Keep the area around the dryer clear for proper airflow.
Refrigerator
- Vacuum the condenser coils twice a year β dust buildup makes the compressor work harder.
- Check the door seal periodically; a worn gasket forces the compressor to run constantly.
- Keep the fridge reasonably full β it holds temperature more efficiently than an empty one.
HVAC
- Replace or clean the air filter monthly during heavy-use seasons.
- Keep the outdoor condenser unit clear of plants, leaves, and debris.
- Schedule a professional tune-up once a year, ideally before summer.
A few minutes a month is genuinely the difference between a $50 fix and a $500 one. If something's already acting up despite regular maintenance, that's usually a sign a part has simply worn out β give us a call.
