Simple Maintenance That Prevents Most Appliance Repairs
Most of the service calls we run could have been delayed, sometimes avoided entirely, with a few minutes of regular maintenance. None of this requires tools or expertise, just a recurring reminder.
Washer
- Leave the door open between loads on front-load washers to prevent mold and odor buildup.
- Clean the detergent drawer regularly.
- Don't overload, it's the single biggest cause of premature bearing wear.
Dryer
- Clean the lint trap before every load, this alone prevents most slow-drying complaints.
- Vacuum out the vent hose once or twice a year. A clogged run is what blows thermal fuses, which is most of what we see on dryer repair calls for no heat.
- Keep the area around the dryer clear for proper airflow.
Refrigerator
- Vacuum the condenser coils twice a year, dust buildup makes the compressor work harder.
- Check the door seal periodically; a worn gasket forces the compressor to run constantly.
- Keep the fridge reasonably full, it holds temperature more efficiently than an empty one.

Oven & Range
- Wipe spills while the oven is cool instead of saving them for a self-clean cycle, the high-heat cycle is what kills door locks, thermal fuses and control boards.
- Check the door gasket once a year: it should be springy all the way around, with no gaps at the corners.
- Keep an oven thermometer inside and glance at it now and then, a slow drift in temperature is the earliest warning of a tired sensor or element.

HVAC
- Replace or clean the air filter monthly during heavy-use seasons.
- Keep the outdoor condenser unit clear of plants, leaves, and debris.
- Schedule a professional tune-up once a year, ideally before summer. What that visit actually includes is on our AC maintenance page.
