Professional Whirlpool Repair in Irvine and South Orange County

Whirlpool refrigerators are everywhere in South County: in kitchens, in garages, in rentals. When one starts leaking, stops making ice, or clicks and won't cool, the fix is usually a common part and a single visit. Alpha & Omega does professional Whirlpool repair in Irvine, Tustin and Lake Forest and down the corridor to San Clemente, on refrigerators and freezers first and on Whirlpool ovens and ranges.

We're an independent repair company, not part of Whirlpool's own service network. If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, call Whirlpool first.

Which Whirlpool appliances do you repair?

Whirlpool refrigerators in every common style: top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side and French door. Upright and chest freezers. Gas and electric ranges and wall ovens.

Whirlpool Corporation also makes KitchenAid and Maytag, and many parts are shared across all three. That keeps parts easy to get and prices reasonable, which matters on a mid-priced appliance where the repair has to make sense.

Why is my Whirlpool refrigerator leaking water?

First figure out where the water is. Inside the fridge, under the crisper drawers, it's almost always the defrost drain. Melted frost is supposed to run down a tube to a pan underneath, and when that tube freezes or clogs, the water backs up into the fresh food section.

Water on the floor in front of the fridge, with the inside dry, points to the water side: a filter that isn't seated or a cracked filter housing, the inlet valve at the back, or the supply line itself. A puddle that shows up behind the refrigerator is usually the line or the valve.

Two safe checks. Take the water filter out and put it back in until it locks, since a half-seated filter leaks. Then pull the bottom kick plate and look for a wet drain pan or drips around the valve. If you find an active leak at the line, close the water supply valve and call us. Our refrigerator leaking water guide has more detail on each spot.

Why is my Whirlpool ice maker not making ice, or making small cubes?

The shape of the ice tells you a lot. Small, hollow or half-formed cubes mean the ice maker isn't getting enough water: an old filter, low household water pressure, or an inlet valve that's starting to fail. Big frozen clumps usually mean the ice sits too long, or the freezer temperature swings, so cubes melt a little and refreeze together. Break them up, and if it keeps happening, check the door seals.

No ice at all is a different list. Check the shut-off arm or the on/off switch first, since a bag of frozen peas can lift the arm and stop production. Then make sure the freezer is around 0°F. After that the suspects are a frozen fill tube, the inlet valve and the ice maker itself. Our ice maker guide lays out these checks.

Why is my Whirlpool fridge clicking and not cooling?

Listen near the bottom back of the refrigerator. If you hear a click, a short hum, and another click a few minutes later, the compressor is trying to start and failing. The start relay or overload on the side of the compressor is a frequent cause, and it's a modest repair. Sometimes the compressor itself is the problem, and the test tells us which.

A dirty condenser coil makes all of this worse. On most freestanding Whirlpool models the coil is behind the kick plate or on the back near the floor. Unplug the refrigerator and vacuum it once a year. Once a year is plenty, you don't need to do it every month. If the fridge lives in a garage, look at it more often. South County garages get very hot in late summer, and a fridge working against 95°F air needs every bit of condenser it has.

Warm fresh food with a cold freezer is a separate problem, usually the evaporator fan or a defrost fault. Our refrigerator repair page explains those in more detail.

What goes wrong with Whirlpool ovens and ranges?

On electric Whirlpool ovens, a bake element that's burned through is easy to spot. You'll see a blister, a split or a bright spot that flared before it failed. If the element looks fine and the oven still won't hold temperature, the oven sensor or the control is next.

Gas ovens on Whirlpool ranges rely on a hot surface igniter. As it ages, it glows but doesn't get hot enough to open the gas valve, so preheating stretches from 15 minutes to 40 and then stops altogether. That's one of the most predictable oven repairs there is.

A control panel that beeps, shows an error or ignores the touchpad is less common but does happen, often after years of heat and cleaning sprays around the keypad. Spray the cloth, not the panel. More on all of this on our oven and range repair page.

Is it worth repairing a Whirlpool?

Usually yes, when the refrigerator is under about ten years old and the problem is a fan, defrost part, ice maker, relay or valve. Those are moderate repairs on an appliance that still has years left.

A sealed system failure on an older top-freezer is where we'd often suggest replacing. The repair can cost close to a new unit. We'll give you the number and our honest take, and you decide. Our repair or replace guide covers how to think about it.

What can I do to keep a Whirlpool refrigerator running longer?

Not much, honestly, and that's good news. Vacuum the condenser coil once a year. Change the water filter about every six months. Keep the door gaskets clean with warm soapy water, since sticky spills make them tear. Leave a couple of inches of space behind the fridge so it can breathe.

If you're going away for a few weeks, leave it running and switch the ice maker off. A refrigerator that's turned off with the doors closed grows mold fast.

What does a Whirlpool service call cost?

$95 for a Whirlpool refrigerator or freezer and $85 for a Whirlpool oven or range. The fee covers the visit and diagnosis and is applied toward the repair if you go ahead. You'll have the repair price before anything is replaced, and every repair carries a 90-day parts and labor warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Whirlpool refrigerator leaking water inside?

Water under the crisper drawers almost always means the defrost drain is frozen or clogged. Water on the floor in front usually comes from the filter, the inlet valve or the water line.

My Whirlpool fridge clicks every few minutes and isn't cooling. What is it?

The compressor is trying to start and failing. The start relay or overload is a common cause, and sometimes the compressor itself. A dirty condenser coil can make it worse.

Why is my Whirlpool ice maker making small cubes?

Small or hollow cubes mean the ice maker isn't getting enough water. Replace an old filter first. If that doesn't help, low water pressure or a weak inlet valve is likely.

Is a Whirlpool refrigerator worth repairing?

Usually yes if it's under about ten years old and the problem is a fan, defrost part, ice maker, relay or valve. A sealed system failure on an older unit often isn't worth it, and we'll tell you so.

How much is a Whirlpool service call?

$95 for a refrigerator or freezer and $85 for an oven or range, applied toward the repair. Repairs carry a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
