Professional Thermador Repair in Irvine and South Orange County
Thermador Pro ranges are built to cook hard, and the problems they develop follow a pattern. Burners that won't light. Burners that won't stop clicking. Ovens that drift off temperature, and the odd convection fan that starts to rumble. Alpha & Omega does professional Thermador repair in Irvine, Tustin and Lake Forest and down to San Clemente, on Pro Grand and Pro Harmony ranges, rangetops, wall ovens and the built-in Freedom column refrigerators.
We're an independent repair company, not part of Thermador's own service network. If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Thermador first.
Which Thermador appliances do you work on?
Gas and dual fuel Pro Grand and Pro Harmony ranges in the common widths, Thermador rangetops, single and double wall ovens, and Thermador refrigeration: Freedom column refrigerators and freezers and the built-in French door and bottom-freezer models.
Thermador is part of BSH, the same group that makes Bosch. Some electronics and refrigeration parts overlap between the two. The burner system on the Pro ranges is very much its own design, though, and that's where most of our Thermador work happens.
Why won't my Thermador star burner light?
The star burner is the five-point shape on top of the range. The points give the flame a longer edge than a round burner has, which helps the heat spread across a wide pan. It also means more ports that can clog.
Start with what you can see. The burner cap has to sit flat and centered on the base. If it's even slightly off after cleaning, the flame won't carry all the way around and the burner may not light at all. Then look at the ports. A pot of pasta water or a sugary sauce that boiled over can seal several ports at once. A soft brush or a wooden toothpick clears them. Never use a metal pin, it can widen the holes and change the flame.
Next, look at the igniter, the small white ceramic piece beside the burner. If it's cracked or caked with burnt food, the spark jumps to the wrong place or doesn't happen. If you hear clicking at one burner with no flame, and the cap and ports are clean, the igniter or its wire is the next suspect. That's a job for us, not a screwdriver. If you smell gas while a burner fails to light, turn the knob off and let the kitchen air out before trying again. Our gas range burner guide goes deeper on flame color and weak burners.
Why does my Thermador keep clicking?
Two very different things cause this, and one of them is normal. Thermador's ExtraLow burners hold a low simmer by cycling the flame off and back on, and the spark relights it each time. An occasional click while you're simmering on ExtraLow is the burner doing its job.
Constant clicking with every knob off is a fault. The most common cause is moisture. After a heavy wipe-down or a boil-over, water gets into a burner base or a knob switch, and the spark module keeps firing. Cut power to the range at the breaker and give it a day to dry out.
Still clicking once it's dry? Then it's usually a spark switch behind one of the knobs, or the spark module itself. We test which one before replacing anything. Spark modules aren't cheap, and swapping one on a guess is how people end up paying twice.
Why is my Thermador oven running hot or cold?
On electric and dual fuel Thermador ovens, the oven temperature sensor is a frequent cause. It's a thin metal probe inside the cavity. As it ages its reading drifts, and the control believes the wrong number. The display says 350°F while the oven actually sits much cooler.
Elements fail too: bake, broil, or the convection element around the rear fan. A failed element usually gives itself away with a blister or a break, or with one mode working while another doesn't. On all-gas Pro ranges the oven lights with a gas igniter, and a weak one causes slow preheats long before it quits completely.
A grinding or rumbling convection fan is another common one. That's typically the fan motor bearings. We'd replace the motor early, before the blade starts dragging.
If you're hosting in November, check the oven now, not on Thanksgiving morning. Set it to 350°F, give it 20 minutes and read a simple oven thermometer on the middle rack. Our guide to oven temperature problems before Thanksgiving explains what the reading means.
What about Thermador Freedom column refrigerators?
Thermador's column refrigerators and freezers are fully built in, with panels that match the cabinets. The problems they get are the ones other built-ins get: an ice maker that stops, a column that slowly warms, frost in the freezer, a fan that turns noisy.
Each column is its own appliance with its own cooling system. A warm refrigerator column tells you nothing about the freezer column beside it, so we diagnose them separately. Panels, hinges and anti-tip anchoring all have to go back exactly as they were, and most diagnosis happens from the front with the doors open. Our refrigerator repair page covers the common fridge faults in more detail.
What does Thermador repair cost?
The service call is $85 for a Thermador range, rangetop or wall oven and $95 for a Thermador refrigerator or freezer. It's applied toward the repair if you go ahead, and you'll have the repair price before we start. Every repair carries a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
On a Pro range, we'd almost always repair. The burner box, oven cavity and frame on these ranges last for decades. The parts that fail are the small ones: igniters, spark switches, sensors and elements. More on cooking appliance service on our oven and range repair page.
Which cities do you serve for Thermador repair?
Irvine first, it's where we're based, so Shady Canyon, Turtle Rock, Quail Hill and the rest of the city get the shortest wait. Then Tustin, including the Tustin Foothills, and Lake Forest with Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills.
Past that we cover Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Beach, Ladera Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point and San Clemente. See all of them on the service areas page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you part of Thermador's service network?
No. We're an independent company doing professional Thermador repair on Pro ranges, rangetops, wall ovens and column refrigerators. If your unit is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Thermador first.
Is it normal for my Thermador burner to click on ExtraLow?
Yes. ExtraLow holds a low simmer by cycling the flame off and on, and the igniter relights it each time. Constant clicking with all knobs off is not normal and needs a look.
My Thermador range clicks nonstop after cleaning. What should I do?
Turn the range off at the breaker and let it dry for a day. Moisture in a burner base or knob switch is the most common cause. If it still clicks once dry, a spark switch or the spark module has likely failed.
How much is a Thermador service call?
$85 for a range, rangetop or wall oven and $95 for a refrigerator or freezer. The fee is applied toward the repair, and repairs carry a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
Should I repair or replace an older Thermador Pro range?
In most cases repair. The body, burner box and oven cavity hold up for many years, and the parts that wear out, like igniters, switches, sensors and elements, are replaceable.
